Applying for a PhD @ Edinburgh – Funding – Frequently Asked Questions

UNIVERSITYOn the 5th and 10th of November 2014 the IAD hosted on-campus and online panel discussions about applying for a PhD. This gave Taught Masters students the opportunity to ask staff questions about the PhD application process at the University of Edinburgh.

Representatives from Admissions, EUSA, International Office and the Scholarship Office were there to answer questions and give advice to students.

Over the next couple of weeks, this blog will cover some of the discussions raised during these panel sessions.

Examples of questions raised included:

  • Which scholarships are available to UK students in order to study in the EU?
  • Should I apply for funding from UK institutions, EU institutions or a combination?
  • Is the research proposal necessary to begin the procedure for funding next year?
  • How competitive is it applying for funding?

There are various PhD funding opportunities available, so it is important to spend time fully investigating these, including any small print.

Below is a list of some of the funding opportunity links with deadlines starting from November 2014 until early April 2015.  These are all prestigious PhD programmes with skills training and work experience features. Some are available to international students too.
